Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located about 50km south of Kuala Lumpur in the Sepang district of the state Selangor. KLIA airport is the main hub for Malaysian Airlines. It takes about 1 hour by bus or car to get here from Kuala Lumpur. The fastest option is the KLIA Express train from KL Sentral which takes 28min.
KLIA was opened in 1991 as part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) development plan for the area south of Kuala Lumpur which also includes Putrajaya (the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia), Cyberjaya (technology and Science Park that aspires to be the Silicon Valley of Malaysia) and the Sepang Formula 1 circuit (right next to KLIA).
KLIA had been awarded several times for its design and passenger service. The airport design is very compact so you never have walked very far. There are 2 buildings – the main airport building (where you arrive at from KL, Malaysian Airlines departs from here) and the Satellite Terminal A (where most international flights depart from). Both buildings are connected by a train line.
